Ash cloud reaches Reykjavík

It’s been reported today that due to change in wind direction, the ash cloud has finally reached the capital city area. The phenomenon is not as noticeable as it could be due to bad weather conditions. According to official measurements, ash particles percentage has not exceeded safety levels and it’s been forecasted that rain that will fall in the evening will help keep ash particles amount down. People with pulmonary diseases or respiratory problems have been advised to remain indoors though.

The change in the direction of the ash fall has also caused the airports of Reykjavík and Akureyri to stay closed, disrupting most domestic flights schedules. Keflavík airport remains opened granting most international connections, but some flights towards continental European destinations, especially to France, Germany and the Netherlands, are being cancelled.

According to forecasts, the wind will change again in the next hours and the ash will be carried Northwest.
