This has to be one of the most photographed eruptions ever, but there are some photographers that thanks to the unique spectacle of the volcano, their skills, and their bravery were able to take truly incredible images of the second eruption at Eyjafjallajökull.
You will be able to find some of these by browsing Flickr’s recent photos. Anyhow, the photos shot by Skarphéðinn Þráinsson, a mechanical engineer and photographer with a great interest in wild life and nature, are nothing short of stunning, breathtaking. You can try to describe these natural events, but no words will ever be able to communicate the terrifying strength and beauty of an eruption like these images. Skarphéðinn took many photographs of the plume rising from the volcano, and captured the powerful lightning running through the cloud with long-time exposures, taken during night time.
Skarphéðinn’s profile can be found here. Skarphéðinn has equally stunning photos of the first eruption at Fimmvörduháls, so do yourself a favor and browse through his sets.
