Sorry for the lack of updates in the morning, but writing until 6 in the morning and waking up early is very difficult. During the night, two more floods from the Gígjökull glacial tongue (an outlet glacier of Eyjafjallajökull) reached the Markarfljót river, which caused flooding of the area similar to what we saw yesterday, and damages to 400 meters of the Ring Road close to the Markarfljót bridge. The holes that were dug by the Civil Protection along the Ring Road served their purpose of allowing the floods to discharge their energy before reaching the new bridge above the river. The only website to check in detail road conditions throughout Iceland, available also in english, is the one of the Icelandic Road Administration.
According to the Icelandic Meteorological Office’s maps, no major earthquakes have been registered in the past hours, with all events being below magnitude 3.
The ash cloud is also still spreading, reaching Eastern Europe and Central Europe. We will have an update on that in the next minutes.
