It’s that time of the year again. For those who are familiar with it, it’s time to get ready for this year’s Iceland Airwaves, probably the most popular annual music event in Iceland.
The first Airwaves was held in 1999 in an airplane hangar. Since its first edition many bands, then unknown and now famous, were involved in this music event.
Will this year’s festival be up to the expectations? Who knows? The only certainty for now is the tickets are all sold out. If you have your ticket ready, be prepared to cope with endless queues and very crowded venues.
This year’s edition seems to be pretty much focused on Icelandic music; there are a few foreign bands, but nothing – at least from the critics and the well-informed point of view – truly mouth-watering. Alas, things – and festival’s management – have changed…
Both if you have a ticket and if you don’t, you can take a look at this year’s schedule: from the official source, here is the official venue program and the off-venue program.
