 Reykjavik Shorts & Docs 2012

Something worth knowing: Reykjavík Shorts & Docs is starting on Sunday this week. The 2012 edition of Iceland’s film festival devoted to short features and documentaries is going to be hosted primarily at Bíó Paradís from May 6 to 9, although a few screenings will also be held at the Art Museum and at Icelandair hotel Reykjavík Marina by scenic Reykjavík’s harbor. This four-day event is one that film lovers of Iceland and visitors likewise should not be overlooking.

The festival’s first edition dates back to 2001; in the words of founder Hjalmtýr Heiðdal, Reykjavík Shorts & Docs was established as a new starting platform for Icelandic filmmakers to get encouragement and feedback and also as a special occasion for the audience to get acquainted with “a range of exceptional documentaries and short films”. Over the years Reykjavík Shorts & Docs has widened its scope, expanding its focus from Icelandic to international shorts and documetaries. As one of the most relevant events taking place in Iceland’s capital both for people in the film industry and for cinemagoers, it has acquired a loyal following among locals and abroad.

Patron of Reykjavík Shorts & Docs 2012 is British documentary author Kim Longinotto. A selection of her works will be screened in the course of the event. The full schedule, complete with showtimes, Q&A with the filmmakers and extras, is available at this link, so please check it out.
