Reykjavík Winter Lights Festival 9-12 February 2012

Reykjavik Winter Lights Festival 2012Reykjavík Winter Lights Festival (Vetrarhátíð) is starting tomorrow. From Thursday to Sunday, the festival will host many different recreational and cultural happenings, including art exhibitions, film screenings, live music and so much more. The opening ceremony with Mayor Jón Gnarr will take place officially tomorrow evening at the Hallgrímskirkja and the festival will be going until the end of the weekend. As for the previous editions, one of the highlights of this yearly occasion sponsored by the City of Reykjavík will be the Museum Night on the 10th of February, in which a wide number of museums, galleries and libraries–38 in all this year–around the Reykjavík metropolitan area will welcome visitors until midnight. Other relevant events are Children’s Day, dedicated to the little ones, Photo Day and the Night Pool, which was newly introduced in this edition. Most events are free of charge and everybody is warmly invited to take part in them, so check them out.

Vetrarhátíð was first held in 2002. Over the years, it has become one of the popular winter time festivities taking place in Reykjavík downtown.
