These images were taken early on Christmas morning, at around 5 AM, in the midst of a snowstorm and while everybody was sound asleep after the celebrations for Christmas Eve. Despite the cold and the crazy weather, it was a magical moment, in a way. One of the best Christmas presents I have ever been given.
This year’s Christmas was a quiet one. We spent most of the time indoors, watching old films (Kurosawa’s The Idiot and Preminger’s Anatomy of a Murder, among others) and sipping Porto. In Iceland, especially when the weather is wild and the wind is blowing restlessly, most people enjoy spending their time engaged in simple activities, as reading books and playing board games. New Year’s Eve is going to be different though, as for the last day of the year Icelanders wake up from this peaceful torpor to gather outdoors and explode fireworks.
Nice images. You can hear the silence of the winter morning in them.
Nice blog, Pu! I’m glad to have stumbled across you. The photos are wonderful!
Are you taking some time off? — No new posts this year 😉
Best wishes for the new year!
Yes, taking a break now and then. Things need to be done and time is unmerciful =)
