Haven’t you heard before? Iceland Airwaves 2011 is sold out! Yes, this not news and I am not joking. If you are coming to Iceland in the hope to find a spare ticket or two, there is a chance you will cry bitter tears. Perhaps you were planning to beg for a wristband? Well, if this is the best idea you can come up with, it’s likely you will be disappointed.
Your bile is ready to make you turn into a mess of opalescent green. What now?
No fear! You can use your time more productively than begging. There is still enough music to keep your Eustachian tubes busy during the upcoming week. The Airwaves off-venue program offers an incredibly rich choice of live music events and other extraordinaire activities to keep you engaged for a good while. And yes, all of this is accessible even without a wristband. Heck, there is enough going on with the off-venue schedule alone to organize not only one, but at least another couple of festivals. So please, browse through the Airwaves’ official guide and take notes. I mean, seriously.
The guide is an open publication courtesy of Iceland Airwaves and RVK Grapevine.
Note that most venues are rather small and they can thus host just a very limited number of attendees, so plan your festival carefully — this is a valid suggestion not only for the off-venue gigs, but also for the official festival!
