Kira Kira and Graham Keegan, in collaboration with Hlaðan Artist Residency present: Undir Niðri, a sound installation.
This special event will be running between July 24 and August 13 at Hlaðan, in the small town of Vogar, in south west Iceland.
The roots of the collaboration behind Undir Niðri date back to 2008, when Kira Kira was touring the US. At the time, Keegan designed a poster for one of the shows of the Icelandic artist. Having found a common ground to their artistic visions, they both decided to get together to research further possibilities of expression. Undir Niðri is the result of this artistic journey.
In the creators’ intention, the installation, a temple made of felted Icelandic wool, is conceived as a “spiritual cocoon”, a sacred space to let the mind be soothed, a means to explore and meditate and let the whole being feel at ease.
The inauguration of Undir Niðri will take place at 17:00 on Sunday 24 July, 2011. In the course of the opening ceremony, Kira Kira, on organ and accompanied by Pétur Hallgrímsson on lap steel guitar, will perform a new music piece especially composed for the fascinating woolen setting.
