Living in Iceland means paying more than twice what anybody in the US would pay to buy an iPhone 4 and not being able to purchase any app with it. Reading about Angry Birds without being able to play feels like a stupid joke. And it sucks, right? That’s what Apple users in Iceland must have thought. Until now, being a desperate iPhone photography addict, I managed to bypass the problem by using a foreign credit card. Many others residing in Iceland resorted to using the same trick. Well, that’s something from the past. Apple is opening the iOS App Store and Mac App Store to 33 new countries, and guess what? Iceland is among them.
The full list of countries for the new App Stores:
Algeria, Angola, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Bahrain, Barbados, Belarus, Belize, Bermuda, Bolivia, British Virgin Islands, Brunei, Cayman Islands, Cyprus Dominica, Ghana Grenada, Guyana, Iceland, Montserrat, Nigeria, Oman, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and The Grenadines, Suriname, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos, Uzbekistan, Yemen.
Well, Iceland’s name looks weird in this list — but that’s not relevant.
Anyway, this change interests not only users: developers can now sell their products to any of these countries by adding them to their sales territory list. Easy!

Where is the source for this news?
I can’t see it in the current list of countries in my US store? When is this to start?
Dear “example”,
the source is Apple. They first sent a message to developers to inform them they could now activate sales also in these countries. As usual for Apple, they did not give a precise date, which makes one assume the date is now. I can already access the App Store for Iceland (but I need an Icelandic account to purchase from it), but it is likely not all world stores have yet been updated to show the new countries’ icons.
Note that this applies only to the App Store. For the time being, there is no news of extending this to the music store, certainly for licensing problems.
