Kinosmiðja is an open studio for DIY filmmakers. Their aim is the study and the actualization of the processes involving filmmaking, especially on an totally independent level, with a low budget and the most varied purposes and media.
Among the activities promoted by Kinosmiðja, you will find the KinoKlubbúr, a nomadic cine club in Iceland devoted to screening of creative films created with independent means and with very limited budget. Films screened vary from shorts to features and are of the most varied genres – narrative, documentary, animation, etc.
The Moving Pictures Festival that will be held at the Hafnarhús from October 21 to October 23 is one of the events promoted by Kinosmiðja; films that are going to be shown at the festival fall into the short category and are exemplary specimens in the history of the experimental and avant-garde filmmaking movement from the 60’s to the present day.
