It’s time for the annual appointment with the Menningarnótt. This year’s Culture Night is going to take place in Reykjavík on August 21, 2010. The whole downtown area of the capital is going to host several events of different genres held at various locations throughout the whole day, from morning till night, both indoors and outdoors. Galleries and cultural institutions, indipendent artists and musicians, and many more, will take part in this year’s celebrations, with open workshops, music shows, art exhibitions, guided tours, public readings, fireworks display, and so much more to discover. People of all ages will find something of interest to satisfy their taste.
The official Culture Night’s site is in Icelandic, but their program in English language in pdf format is downloadable here. Most events are free. Some though will require the purchase of an individual ticket. Also, the program on the site is almost comprehensive, but a few more events are not being not listed.
Established in Reykjavík in 1996, the annual Culture Night is usually held on the first Saturday after the 18th of August; this year it will reach its 15th edition. More than 100,000, 000 people attended the previous celebrations. What is going to happen this year? If you are in Reykjavík and you have nothing better to do, why don’t you find out for yourself?
