Well, it seems that the renewed ash cloud that started to emerge from the eruption site’s a couple of days ago is once again giving troubles to European air traffic. Ireland first, and then Scotland, had to close their air space, grounding all flights. The good news is that skies should clear again over these countries in the next hours, and that the ash cloud should move over the ocean tomorrow. The bad news is that winds are actually quite unpredictable, and that the eruption is far from over. In fact, according to the Icelandic Met Office, “There are no signs that the eruption is about to end”. Increased seismicity, lava tongues that get wider every day, increased ash production: this is what has been observed over the past two days.
The uncertainty has not stopped tourists, in any case. Plenty of them in the streets of Reykjavík, many with plans to get as close as possible to the eruption site.
