Many developments occurred in the last hours. There are news that the floods in the Markarfljót river are decreasing, and that no major damage was registered, for the time being, to the bridges along the Ring Road.
Evacuation of the area began as early as 4 in the morning, local time. Inhabitants and workers in the area have been gathered in the mass care center at Hvolsvöllur Elementary School, with more than 700 people asked by the Icelandic Civil Protection to leave their homes. While a few farmers were allowed to visit their farms, they were asked to go away from the area in the evening.
All roads around the area remain blocked. The Ring Road is blocked and has been broken in many points to allow the floods to flow through the road in order to release part of their energy before reaching the new bridge in the area. Thus, all traffic is closed from Hvolsvöllur to Skógar.
Instrument flights at or below 30,000 feet have been banned in the area north and east of the eruption area, with the possibility of the banned area being extended to reach Norway in the next hours. Currently, all domestic flights to Egilsstadir and Hornafjördur have been cancelled. International flights should not register major delays, even though all flights that should have passed above the eruption area will have to take a different route. According to the arrivals and departures table at Keflavík airport website all flights are on time, with minor delays on some flights.
RÚV, the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, has posted some of the videos being shown on television on their website. You can find a video of the floods here. The video has also been re-posted on YouTube, along with an aerial video of the area of the eruption, by user kadamatful:
